Mica and Sericite

Mica is the group name of large alumino-silicate minerals, each of which splits into very thin flexible sheets. The mica family includes muscovite, phlogopite, biotite, sericite, etc. Among them, only muscovite, phlogopite, and sericite have been found with commercial applications.

Sericite, a secondary fine ground white mica, is a scaly variety of muscovite with a pearl luster. Sericite occurs in various metamorphic rocks. The vein consists of quartz and beryl covered with third epoch ore beds. It is also known as “potash-mica” being a silicated product of potassium and aluminium oxygeneration.

The muscovite mica was mainly used in the painting industry, but its resistance to ultraviolet radiation and hydrolysis was less than the flake-powdered sericite. After wet-grinding, the flake-powder sericite can be applied in the field of painting, rubber, plastics, paper, cosmetics, welding, building materials, mica sheets, etc.
